Bazaar By the Lake 2010

Bazaar By the Lake

Bazaar By the Lake is held by the lake to raise funds for the PRIME project. Our school organized the Chung Cheng High School (Main) Bazaar by the Lake 2010 on 17 July 2010 (Saturday). This fund raising bazaar was entirely planned, put together and run by the joint effort of CCHMS students and teachers. Every class put in their best to invite friends, families and alumni members to come back and have a fun-filled day by the lake.

The lake flooded due to heavy rain and microburst at dawn impacted the running of the bazaar as the food stalls originally located beside the lake had to be relocated. There were various games stalls at the parade square, different products and services on offer at the concourse, a diversity of food from different ethnic background at the canteen, haunted house at the Innosphere and a Graffiti wall located outside construction site of the Indoor Sports Hall. Visitors were spoilt for choice.

Interview with Wong Wen Yi
Interviewer(Sim Zixuan)

What were your feelings when you were about to attend bazaar by the lake?
Wen Yi : I felt excited as it was my first time coming to Chung Cheng. I was excited at the thought of fun games and delicious food sold there.

Are there many activities there? Please elaborate.
Wen Yi: Yes, there were. There were a large variety of games, perfect for families. It was also a great time for families to bond and also spend time beside the flooded lake.

Can you describe what are the activities?
Wen Yi: There were activities such as The Haunted House, Dunking Machine and many more...

Did you have enough time to try out all games booth?

Wen Yi: Yes, I did. We spent a few hours at the Bazaar By The Lake. Thus, I was able to try out all the games as the games were challenging and interesting.

After you attended Bazaar by the lake, how was your feelings compared to when you was about to enter Chung Cheng?
Wen Yi: I was satisfied with the Bazaar By The Lake as the students treated us warmly. The students were cheerful and would try gleefully to promote their products or their games. Each stalls were surrounded by many people. Thus, I think that the event was a success.

If there was another given chance, will you participate in this event again?
Wen Yi: Yes, I would. This event was a fun yet fruitful one. This event would allow students to try their best to work hard to reach their target. This event would also allow me and my classmates to be bonded together and united as we try to overcome the difficulties.

Interview with Mr Chua Chor Loon(our school's discipline master)
Interviewers(Hazel Khoo, our journalist, Wong Wen Yi and Sim Zixuan)

What were your feelings and thoughts when you were about to get dunked? Why?
Mr Chua: I was having great fun and I had a good dip in the cool water.

Did you feel angry when you got dunked? Please elaborate.
Mr Chua: No. It was a fun event and everyone is having fun.

Will this event happen again?
Mr Chua: Yes, of course! We would organise such events to raise funds, be it for building the school or good deed.

What did you think or feel about the whole Bazaar By The Lake event?
Mr Chua: It was a good time where the whole school worked together for a good cause to raise funds to build the school together (air-conditioning facilities, Indoor Sports Hall, etc.) Everyone feel fulfilled as we all reached the target of raising enough money of $30 000.

Why do you think the school organised this event? What do you think students reap from this activity?
Mr Chua:It is to give students an experience to come together for a good cause and worked together to set up the stalls. It was a memorable experience for the students.

Do you think the students put in enough effort and time in this event? Did it meet your expectations?
Mr Chua: They did well but we could raise even more funds through this event. They need to make more effort to go out to sell the funfair tickets. Of course, even ex-alumni students came. It was a great reunion.

The National Service Ordinance was introduced by the British government in 1952 (but took effect in 1954), that people seeking self-government should be able to defend themselves.

.Occurred when the British wanted to impose compulsory part-time military service on locals aged 18 and above as the Chinese Medium School students did not want to serve a foreign government against the Malayan communists.
On 13 May 1954, 500 students held a demonstration against the National Service Ordinance.  500 Chinese schoolboys and girls tried to march onto the Government House (Istana Negara) to lodge their protest.
The police later persuaded the leaders to let the parents pass and the school grounds were cleared peacefully by 11 am.
